uPVC pipe

What is uPVC?

Unplasticised PVC (uPVC) is one of the most common types of PVC used for pipes and fittings.

The smooth inner wall of uPVC pipe allows fluids to flow with minimal friction losses.

Uses of uPVC

Unplasticised PVC is highly adaptable and suitable for a wide range of applications as it is rigid in composition, resistant to chemical corrosion and able to function over a wide range of temperatures and pressures.

This type of PVC is typically used for transporting water and sewage.

uPVC SANS-accreditation

IsoFlo, our uPVC range, is certified by SATAS to adhere to the SANS 966-1 standard.

It is guaranteed to be economical, corrosion free and easy to install.

mPVC pipes

What is mPVC pipe?

Modified PVC (mPVC) pipe is made by combining PVC with a toughness enhancing agent. Plasticising the PVC resin during the manufacturing process modifies it to be more resistant to impacts, shocks and cracks.

mPVC is less rigid and more ductile than uPVC and exhibits excellent flow characteristics. This allows a saving in material and cost to be achieved – mPVC pipes have a thinner wall than uPVC pipes of the same class and diameter, and cost less.

Uses of mPVC pipe

mPVC can be used to transport water for drinking, and non-potable water for irrigation systems.

Pipes made from mPVC are also used to move industrial waste, sewage and even abrasive or corrosive materials in mining.

mPVC SANS-accreditation

IsoTuff, our range of mPVC pipe, is certified by SATAS to adhere to the SANS 966-2 standard.

These pipes can last over 50 years, depending on the application.

Our mPVC Range

Minimum wall thickness and mass per 6-metre length for each size and class (5.8 m length for 400 mm and 500 mm diameters).

Sewer and drain pipe

What is S&D pipe?

Sewer and drain (S&D) pipe is used underground in non-pressure applications for the conveyance of sewage and drain water.

S&D pipe is lightweight and easy to handle and install. It is resistant to corrosion, moisture and roots, while offering high flow capacity.

Uses of S&D pipe

This type of specialty uPVC pipe is perfect for low pressure, below ground applications. Its application stretches across various market sectors.

S&D pipe is mainly used in the plumbing industry and civil market for the construction of buildings and municipal and other infrastructure.

S&D SANS-accreditation

IsoDrain, our S&D pipe, is certified by SATAS to adheres to the SANS 791 standard.

Our range of S&D pipe

Minimum wall thickness and mass per 6-metre length for each size and class (5.8 m length for 400 mm and 500 mm diameters).

Frequently asked questions about PVC pipe

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a dense, rigid, strong and economical plastic. Due to the benefits that its physical and chemical properties provide, it has been widely used to manufacture pipe. PVC pipe is used to transport various liquids and can be used in agricultural, civil, industrial and household applications. For the manufacture of pipe, PVC is augmented with additives such as plasticisers and stabilisers to improve properties such as resilience and malleability.
PVC pipe is specified by its outer diameter and pressure class. A PVC pipe’s outer diameter remains constant irrespective of its pressure class and is equal to its nominal diameter. The wall thickness of a specific pipe increases as its pressure class increases. This means that the inner diameter decreases slightly as the pressure class increases.
How a PVC pipe is cut is usually dependent on its size. For smaller projects and PVC pipes, a portable hacksaw will be effective, whereas for larger scale PVC pipes and applications, PVC pipes may be cut using an industrial saw machine.

With the exception of small sizes (40 mm and smaller), all Agrico PVC pipes are supplied with belled ends and seals already fitted. Joining pipes is as simple as applying lubricant and pushing one pipe into another. Small pipes have expanded ends without seals, to allow easy and quick solvent welding.

When parts of pipes are used, or PVC pipes are joined to other kinds of pipe, fittings or connectors are used. See our range PVC pipe seal fittings and PVC solvent weld fittings.

We manufacture and supply all sizes and classes of PVC pipe used for irrigation solutions and other industrial applications.

As the largest supplier of irrigation systems and components in southern Africa, we have a reliable and extensive supply of PVC pipe, with delivery across the continent.

Reports on the longevity of PVC pipes have show that PVC pipes can last 100 years or even longer. The longevity depends on the type of PVC, and the design and installation of PVC pipe within a system.
